The Cave Rock Chapter received a grant from the Nevada Division of Forestry to implement defensible space on over 70 properties throughout the community. Matching funds from the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District and the Nevada Fire Safe Council Senate Bill 1 dollars were also awarded to further the project. During 2005, over 630 trees were removed and several hundred more were limbed to provide adequate clearance from structures. The brush removal portion of the project will occur this spring to complete the initial creation of defensible space.
