What is a Fire Safe Highlands? While most of us consider the Highlands a beautiful place to live, the Highlands community is also considered a high wildfire risk area. This high risk is due to our steep terrain, dry conditions , and flammable vegetation. We are not alone in our risk to wildfire. Throughout the West there are many communities that are both beautiful and dangerous. Fire Safe Highlands is a community-directed coalition of concerned residents who want to make the Highlands wildfire safe. While we can never eliminate the threat of a wildfire, we can work together to reduce the severity and intensity of a potential wildfire while still maintaining the beauty of our community. We can do this through educational and community collaboration.

We can't have a Fire Safe Highlands without your help. Please join us and share your ideas and time in helping to make the Highlands fire safe.

Our Role: Fire Safe Highlands works with the Highlands residents, property owner associations, fire departments, Storey County, NDF, and  the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension to ensure our resources and environment are properly protected, developed and managed for maximum fire-protection.
