Jason Arnold, Tahoe Basin Regional Coordinator, has over ten years in the fire-fighting field.

Before coming to The Nevada Fire Safe Council Arnold was the Facility Director for Galilee Episcopal Camp & Conference Center, Inc.  located in Glenbrook, Nevada. At Galilee he was responsible for oversight of the annual operating budget, programming and the supervision of conference personnel.

From 1997-1999, Jason worked directly under Fire Marshall Brian Eakin, participating in Lake Valley’s fire prevention program. His responsibilities included reducing fire threats and hazards in the district through the recognition of lot abatement, defensible space, public awareness, and Fire Fest.  He is currently a part time paid firefighter for Lake Valley Fire Protection District.

He received a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health from the University of California, Chico; as well as an Associate’s degree in Fire Technology from Alan Hancock College.

John Pickett, Tahoe Regional Chapter Coordinator for the Nevada Fire Safe Council, is also the executive director of the Sugar Pine Foundation He has 29 hours of graduate coursework in forest management, three seasons in increasingly responsible positions as a Forestry Technician for the U.S. Forest Service and organizing a community fuels reduction project for cabin owners at Echo Lakes.  As a forestry technician I was responsible for marking timber to reduce ladder fuels and forest densities in order to both reduce the threat of fire and promote forest health.  I applied that experience in a residential setting at Echo Lakes and reduced forest fuels for four cabin owners in a demonstration project that included collaborating with the U.S. Forest Service, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and Lake Valley Fire Protection District.  The demonstration project attracted 22 residents from adjacent properties who wanted to learn how to create defensible space on their own properties.  Additionally, as the executive director of the Sugar Pine Foundation, my duties include writing grants, networking with the community and developing partnerships with federal, state and local land managers.
